Oh, Mackinac!

Our best suggestions for the whimsical fairy tale dream land that is Mackinac Island!

Paul surprised me with the news that we were headed to Mackinac Island for my birthday & driving through the tunnel of trees on our way up! I was one HAPPY girl to hear that! He definitely took all the photos I sent him of the northern Michigan colored trees as a hint - haha! The tunnel of trees is a 27 mile stretch on M 119 north of Harbor Springs lined entirely with trees along Lake Michigan! STUNNING to say the least! On the way, we stopped at the cutest farm - called Pond Hill Farm. They had so much going on! I highly recommend stopping if you can!

We grabbed dinner & stayed in Mackinaw City after going over the Mackinaw Bridge! A MUST! The restaurant we ate at - called Dixie Saloon reminded me of a cozy up north cabin. Really good food, cozy & so fun! Names & dates were drawn on every seat & wall.. we left our mark there too! :)

We took the ferry over to the island in the morning! Our first stop was breakfast at Pink Pony & WOW - a beautiful place with an amazing waterfront view, great food & friendly service! I 100% recommend! Coffee at Lucky Bean Coffee House was next & WOW, I could have their coffee every single day!

We rented bikes & rode a good portion of the island! Saying hi to every beautiful horse I passed, of course! P.S - there's an Instagram account just for the horses of Mackinac! Ahh!

We explored the Grand Hotel grounds first because that's an absolute must while on the island! The hotel & surrounding grounds are jaw dropping beautiful!

Next, we rode around the local neighborhoods of gorgeous summer homes & for some - their year round residence. Riding along these roads feels like you're truly in a story book fairy tale. So much beauty & elegance! We made our way to explore Fort Mackinac! So much history surrounds this island & it's so fun to learn about everything that happened here at this Fort. Arch Rock is another must when on the island! After four hours of riding around the island, we returned them & were off for snacks & shopping! Mackinac has a thing for fudge so of course we grabbed a few slices for ourselves at Joann's Fudge!

The island is Michigan's top summer vacation spot & fall is just as beautiful there! The colors of the leaves paint this island from one side to the other & it's breath taking! Keep in mind, most of the businesses close for the season (with the exception of a handful that stay open year round) by the last week in October. So hurry there or start to plan your trip there next Spring! Check out more info here!
